DeSantis Will Call for Special Legislative Session on Congressional Redistricting
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Gov. Ron DeSantis announced his intention to call a special legislative session on congressional redistricting in the spring of 2026 during an exclusive interview with Floridian publisher Javier Manjarres.
“Yeah, yeah, so we’re going to redistrict. The issue is that there is a Supreme Court decision that we are waiting on - the argument in October about Section 2 of the VRA [Voting Rights Act] that impacts Florida’s maps, so we’re going to do it next Spring," Gov. DeSantis said. "I am going to talk to Sen. Albritton about when it makes sense to do it, but that will be done. I think we are going to be required to do it because of this court decision.”

Mark Warner Launches Reelection Bid, His Last
Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) on Tuesday announced his bid for reelection, vowing to tackle the economic headwinds Americans are facing as well as the impact of artificial intelligence on job displacement.
“We need universal healthcare coverage and a complete overhaul of affordable housing and childcare,” Warner said in a video posted on his social media. “We need a vision to chart a new path and effective leadership to get it done, that’s why I’m running for reelection for the United States Senate.”
The centrist Democrat, who was first elected to the Senate in 2008 after serving as governor of Virginia, told HuffPost that if he wins, it would be his last term in office.

Thirteen Democrats, one Republican file to make NJ-11 special election ballot
The field for the special election in New Jersey’s 11th congressional district, vacant since Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill resigned from the House last month, is now largely set.
A whopping 13 Democrats have filed for the seat, the largest primary field for a single New Jersey House seat in years. Only one Republican, Randolph Mayor Joe Hathaway, filed to run for the Democratic-leaning district, essentially making him the GOP nominee by default.
All candidates had to file with a minimum of 500 signatures, a threshold that most of them easily surpassed despite the shortened timeframe for circulating petitions. (The threshold was increasedfrom 200 to 500 at the beginning of this year; this special election will be the first time the heightened requirements will be in force for a congressional race.)

Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina launches run for Congress, seeking to flip South Texas district red
Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina launched his bid to run as a Republican for South Texas’ 28th Congressional District on Tuesday, kicking off his campaign to flip a key battleground district red.
National GOP recruiters see Webb County’s top elected official as a promising candidate to unseat longtime U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, in the 2026 midterm elections. The district runs from San Antonio to the border and covers all of Webb County, which is both Tijerina’s and Cuellar’s home base.
“South Texas raised me. Every lesson I have learned about faith, family, hard work, and never giving up came from the people here,” Tijerina said in the news release announcing his campaign. “I am running for Congress because our community deserves someone who knows our struggles, shares our values, and will fight for it like family.”

Spanberger endorses Taylor in crowded congressional primary
Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger is endorsing Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor in a crowded Democratic primary field for the party's nomination to take on Rep. Rob Wittman, R-1st, in a district that might look different when the time comes to vote.
Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger said of Shannon Taylor: "I’ve known Shannon for years, I’ve seen her work up close, and I know she will fight tirelessly for the hardworking families of Virginia’s 1st District. I am proud to endorse her campaign and to partner with her to deliver for Virginia."
The 1st Congressional District, represented by Republican Rob Wittman, includes western Henrico and western Chesterfield counties, as well as part of Hanover County. Those three counties form the district’s largest voter blocs.
