More background from the Independent:
But so far Republicans in Indiana have not taken up the initiative and do not have the votes. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Trump went on a tirade where he called Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz “seriously r*****ed.”
That proved to be too much for state senator Mike Bohacek who announced his opposition to the redistricting effort based on Trump’s words.
“Many of you have asked my position on redistricting,” he said. “I have been an unapologetic advocate for people with intellectual disabilities since the birth of my second daughter.
Per NBC news, state Sen. Michael Bohacek is voting against the upcoming redistricting bill.

It’s not clear yet what impact this will have on the vote tally or its efforts, but Bohacek was quite blunt about his reaction to Trump’s grotesque message in the wake of the DC Guard shooting death.
A quote from the article gives his reasoning for his decision:
“This is not the first time our president has used these insulting and derogatory references and his choices of words have consequences. I will be voting NO on redistricting, perhaps he can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority,” Bohacek wrote in a Facebook post after explaining that he has a daughter with Down syndrome.
No comment yet from Walz or the White House on this, but knowing Trump a little media attention will guarantee a response (“official” or otherwise).
It’s nice to see a bottom showing up for these people. I don’t know his voting or election history in the past, so I’m not sure if this is the first time he’s broken ranks over something like this or not, or if he was in office to do so previously, but drawing a line in the sand now gives others a chance to break ranks as well out of principle on any number of issues: the insult to a deceased servicemember’s memory in how he made it about himself, the insult to immigrant communities, hell throw a dart at the wall covered in his tweets from the past week and pick anything, the justification part is easy.
Kudos to state Sen. Bohacek for standing up for his daughter. May his colleagues stand alongside him and do the right thing for the people of the state, let alone a friend’s private citizen daughter.
