“Trump’s Choices of Words Have Consequences”– Congratulations Indiana’s GOP State Senator Mike Bohacek for Finally Growing Some Spine! November 30, 2025
Many people have been absolutely astounded that Dictator/Demagogue Donald has been able to get away with his constant attacks on our democracy with such impunity. They have been totally surprised at how supine and cowardly GOP state and national legislators have been in refusing to publicly rebuke his nasty words and awful actions, although they privately grouse to one another and to Democrats about his behavior. Well, finally, one GOPer, Indiana State Senator Mike Bohacek, has condemned his “Dear Leader” out loud, the only place it really counts. And not only that, Bohacek has told Donald that because of his awful comments, he will pay a severe price. Bohacek has told Dictator Donald that on his part there will be “consequences” for Trump’s nasty words. Because of Donald’s horrible words, Bohacek will vote against Trump’s further attempts to redistrict Indiana to make it more favorable for the GOP in Campaign 2026.. https://people.com
Just what did Donald say that finally made GOPer Bohacek publicly attack him and go against one of his key issues- additional GOP redistricting? After the terrible shootings that killed a West Virginia National Guard woman and seriously injured a second member in that unit while patrolling Washington D.C., Donald went on a tirade in which he called Minnesota’s Gov. Tim Walz, 61, (Kamala Harris’ 2024 running mate) “seriously r*****ed,” the “R” word that labels someone’s intelligence subnormal. https://people.com
On November 28, 2025, Bohacek shared a post on Facebook that condemned Trump’s use of that “R” word. Donald’s disgusting post had been written on Thanksgiving evening, November 27, 2025, to insult Walz for his pro-immigration stance. https://people.com State Senator Bohacek strongly declared, “Many of you have asked my position on redistricting. I have been an unapologetic advocate for people with intellectual disabilities since the birth of my second daughter.”https://people.com Bohacek added, “Those of you that don’t know me or my family might not know that my daughter has Down Syndrome.”https://people.com
State Senator Bohacek further stated, “This is not the first time our president has used these insulting and derogatory references and his choice of words have consequences.Bohacek said his “consequences” for Trump would include voting NO on redistricting. Perhaps he (Trump) can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority.”https://people.com
Republican Indiana State Senator Mike Bohacek currently represents that state’s Senate District 8. (SD) First elected in 2016 by a 16.54 % margin, 58.27%-41.73%, he was comfortably re-elected to a second term by an 18.8% margin, 59.4%-40.6%. He won a third term by an even more overwhelming 43.4% margin, 71.7%-28.3%. https://ballotpedia.org This area contained counties that voted for Trump after 2016 that had previously voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012. https://ballotpedia.org
The present redistricted Hoosier SD 8, which took effect on November 9, 2022, contains the cities of La Porte, Kingsbury, and Hanna as well as the added towns of Argos and Culver. https://ballotpedia.org On this district’s west side, the major urban area of Michigan City, which initially had a small part in SD 8, was completely removed. On the east of SD 8, the major city of South Bend, home of Notre Dame University, still remains outside this district. https://ballotpedia.org State Senator Bohacek’s residence is listed in La Porte. La Porte was where the future Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, whom no one would describe as a liberal, attended a Catholic boarding high school, La Lumiere. https://en.wikipedia.org/ The Indiana and pro-consumer and environmental CAC, Citizens Action Coalition, founded in 1974, gave State Senator Bohacek a cumulative 60% score. According to the CAC, any percentage below 80% indicates that the legislator is not working to protect consumers.
Hopefully, State Senator Bohacek’s strongly taking on Trump and voting against a key item on his agenda will encourage him to criticize Donald in the future on other major issues. Bohacek’s stand may also, I hope, give other GOPers at the state and national level the “courage” to go after Donald on other matters such as his attacking service members, his anti-immigration/zenophobic views, his narcissistic “it’s all about me” attitude, and his many other coarse, bigoted , and insane views. Maybe GOPers will now understand that Trump could care less about whom he horribly insults and that they too and their families could be next in his line of fire. Bohacek’s coming out against Donald’s contorted redistricting will not help that measure pass in GOP Indiana. Right now, Hoosier GOPers have not taken up the Trump redistricting initiative and still don’t have the votes to pass it, despite the extreme pressure the national GOP is putting on them. Indiana GOPers and others at the state and national level must follow Bohacek’s example and grow a spine to help preserve our democracy. Trump’s words and actions must have consequences.
