Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal is accused of shooting two national guard soldiers in Washington DC and killing one of them. The trust of the government’s account is to highlight the evils of immigrants in our society particularly those coming from third world countries particularly Muslim countries. Reaction to this atrocious act by the government (Trump), has been to accuse the Biden government of incompetence and dereliction of due process in vetting people it admitted into the country, threat to repeat the vetting process of those already granted asylum or some other form of legalization of their stay in the country, threat of revoking the immigration status of people from certain parts of the world and revoking naturalization status of people from same areas and also banning immigration from third world countries. I looked at news cites today including most liberal web sites and very little is talked about the state of affairs as regards this matter, which I believe is because Trump has taken over the narrative and people are scared of being called unpatriotic and are therefore keeping contradictory views and opinions on this matter and how it should be approached to themselves, self sensoring
On identification of the suspect I was particularly struck by his age, 29 years old. He was moved to the country in 2021, which put his age then at 24 years old. It was also mentioned that he had worked with the CIA for ten years prior to the end of that war in 2025, in a special operations squad called the “Kandahar task force” that was a lethal assassination squad going against leaders of the Taliban. “Those units are often labeled "death squads" by human rights groups. The units were known in Afghanistan for their secrecy and alleged brutality, and members were implicated in numerous extrajudicial killings of civilians, particularly during night raids.”
So we have this child who was trained to kill his own people, the war ends he is moved to this country without any mental deprogramming, he loses the privileges he was accorded for killing his people in Afghanistan, to face the difficult life of an immigrant including sides of racism without much help from the people he killed his people for, and yet we are so surprised that he could commit such an atrocious act? Essentially Trump and acolytes want to punish other Afghans and people of color generally for “Rahmanullah Lakanwal”, acting exactly the way we programmed him from his juvenile days to act against people he sees as a trait even against his own people because it was not the Taliban that taught him how to hunt and kill, we did.
Will we recruit a 15 years old native into such a brutal task force? If we do, when he comes home do we just throw him back into society without deprogramming him first? If we do then we are very callous in the way we treat our veterans and should stuff our “thank you for your service”.
We should take this opportunity to also look closely at how we rehabilitate our warriors who are coming home.
