My Thoughts on the Functional / Fundamental Loss of the City of Pokrovsk
I am just as vested in Ukraine’s success as any openly pro-Ukrainian analyst out there. When it comes to Pokrovsk, we are like a family sitting at the bedside of a terminal patient.

We’re hoping, we’re waiting, we’re watching every little change and praying it means something. But one look at the Russian pincer and the forming cauldron in this sector tells the diagnosis. It is right there on the map.
At some point the adult in the room, usually the doctor, has to tell the family to prepare for the worst. That doesn’t mean you stop hoping for a miracle. It means you stop telling yourself a miracle is the plan.
…..
And yes. Ukraine will stick to its strategy and continue to extract every drop of blood it can from Russian forces. That does not mean the defense of this sector is over. It means they are trading space to preserve the force.
Losing a city to win a war is not defeatism. It is the best, and frankly the only, strategy that can lead to victory.
The AP should be ashamed of this.

KYIV - Pavlo Broshkov had high hopes when he joined the Ukrainian army in March as a fresh-faced recruit eager to defend his country and earn a bumper bonus to buy a home for his wife and baby daughter.
Three months later, the 20-year-old lay broken and prone on the battlefield, his dreams in tatters.
"I understood this was the moment I would be torn to pieces," he told Reuters. "I was not afraid of death. I was afraid of not seeing my wife and child again."
Broshkov is among hundreds of 18 to 24-year-olds who have volunteered to fight on the front lines this year, lured by generous pay and perks in a national
youth recruitment drive designed to breathe fresh life into Ukraine's aged and exhausted armed forces of about one million.

He apparently has no fucks left to give.
He referred to Russia's reported plan to "seize Kyiv in three days," saying that Russia had "Tbilisi Syndrome," and memories of the events of the five-day war with Georgia in 20208, but in Ukraine's case it "did not turn out that way."
"During the first few weeks, we were taught a serious harsh lesson, and the former defense minister tried to find a face-saving exit from the situation, calling what was happening a 'gesture of goodwill'," Chirkin said.
He blamed "the entire Russian intelligence community" for the withdrawal from Kyiv Oblast, saying that the country's leadership was given false information that "70% of the Ukrainian population is with us and 30% is against us."
Ukrainian political journalist and blogger Denys Kazansky said on Dec. 2 that such statements have never been made at such a high level before.
"Chirkin, effectively acknowledged the failure of the special military operation and stated that Putin had entered the war unprepared because he had misjudged the situation, which resulted in heavy losses," Kazansky wrote on X.
