I know the norm on KOS is that every diary should be a thoughtful essay of some length. I’ve been a member for 16 years and had several “Recc’d” articles over the years with a few even earning their brief moment at the very top of the Rec List. I am intimately familiar with the norms.

But...

the working-against-their-own-interests stupidity of Somali immigrants supporting Trump in 2024 is so idiotic that there’s not much left to say beyond photo and headline like above. What did these suckers think Trump meant by “They come from Africa — and they’re poisoning the bloodstream of the nation.”

He was talking about YOU.
He could not have made it any clearer.

I’m sure none of the political geniuses pictured above read KOS, but if I somehow found myself talking to them I would say “Don’t commit suicide from shame — PLEASE! Redeem yourselves by apologizing to your families, your community and your country, asking for forgiveness and then working your ass off for the next 12 months (and donating) to throw the MAGA racists and fascists out of office next year.

Oh yeah — also have a long talk with an elder or an Imam about identifying how you could have possibly mis-read the situation so very, very , tragically badly to think that Donald Trump is good for immigrants, good for people of colour or good for people struggling to move up the into the American middle class. As another immigrant to America famously said on television 60 years ago “… you got some ‘splainin’ to do!”
