I’ll be out shortly after publishing time to meet up with some folks and make music. I hope this evening’s Shade finds you all well. Later I decided that my schedule is such that I don’t want to waste anyone’s time, mine especially, by doing it. It made me evaluate what I really want to do, and that project isn’t it. I wish them the best.
Safe Travels to Slideman as he (probably) travels from Wisconsin to Minneapolis and back home tomorrow (Tuesday, 12/2/2025).

Winter weather wreaks havoc in Midwest. More on the way.
Yahoo News
Winter storm headed for Midwest to Northeast. Here's how much snow to expect.
I’ll leave it for you to click through, if you’re curious.
I thought I had a lot of news to report, but it seems to all fall into a few categories, all old news, so this is a fairly light Shade tonight. Rummaging through commentary sites and aggregators didn’t turn up much either.

Pete Hegseth denies he gave orders to ‘kill everybody’ on alleged ‘narco-boat’
The US defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, has declared recent reporting that he may have illegally ordered all people to be killed in a military strike in the Caribbean as “fake news” on Friday evening, adding that the series of strikes of people on boats had been “lawful under both US and international law”.
Hegseth lambasted reports about his role in the strike as “fabricated, inflammatory and derogatory reporting to discredit our incredible warriors fighting to protect the homeland”.
The remarks came after a Washington Post report this week alleged that Hegseth ordered defense officials to “kill everybody” traveling on a boat that was being surveilled by analysts on 2 September, the first strike of many carried out in recent months by the Trump administration. The White House said – without proof – that the people in the boats in the Caribbean, killed in Pentagon operations, were drug smugglers. ✂️

Exactly 80 years ago this precise moment (8:40am Hamburg time, Nov. 30, 1945), German submarine commander Heinz-Wilhelm Eck and two of his former subordinates on the U-852 were shot by Allies in Hamburg for killing the survivors of a ship they had sunk. Pete Hagueseth needs to lawyer up immediately.

Trump says he’ll release MRI results but doesn’t know what part of his body was scanned
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said he’ll release the results of his MRI test that he received in October.
“If you want to have it released, I’ll release it,” the Republican president said Sunday during an exchange with reporters as he traveled back to Washington from Florida.
He said the results of the MRI were “perfect.”
The White House has declined to detail why Trump had an MRI during his physical in October or on what part of his body.
The press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, has said that the president received “advanced imaging” at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center “as part of his routine physical examination” and that the results showed Trump remains in “exceptional physical health.”
Trump added Sunday that he has “no idea” on what part of his body he got the MRI.
“It was just an MRI,” he said. “What part of the body? It wasn’t the brain because I took a cognitive test and I aced it.” ✂️
He must have aced the cognitive test because the doctor gave him a lollipop afterward.
Only because I literally laughed out loud when Propaganda Barbie said this.

Former Trump lawyer Alina Habba is disqualified as top New Jersey prosecutor, US appeals court rules
President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer Alina Habba is disqualified from serving as New Jersey’s top federal prosecutor despite his administration’s maneuvers to keep her in the role, an appeals court said Monday.
A panel of judges from the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sitting in Philadelphia sided with a lower-court judge’s ruling after hearing oral arguments at which Habba was present on Oct. 20.
“It is apparent that the current administration has been frustrated by some of the legal and political barriers to getting its appointees in place. Its efforts to elevate its preferred candidate for U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Alina Habba, to the role of Acting U.S. Attorney demonstrate the difficulties it has faced — yet the citizens of New Jersey and the loyal employees in the U.S. Attorney’s Office deserve some clarity and stability,” the court wrote in a 32-page opinion. ✂️
My poor, poor girl Alina: Hot on the heels of being found liable for $1M last week is now unemployed as well. Unrelated, I’ve got to assume that LaMonica McIver is going to file suit as well. Unfortunately, this is the latest I’ve found, from a little over two weeks (11/13) ago.

Judge denies Rep. LaMonica McIver’s bid to dismiss federal assault charges
A federal judge ruled Thursday that two of the three assault charges against Rep. LaMonica McIver can proceed, largely rejecting the first-term Democrat’s bids to dismiss the charges and paving the way for the case to go to trial.
U.S. District Court Judge Jamel K. Semper, in a 41-page ruling, dismissed McIver’s claims that she is the victim of selective prosecution and that most of the charges she faces are barred by legislative immunity. Prosecutors allege McIver assaulted federal agents on May 9 at the Delaney Hall migrant jail in Newark as the agents moved to arrest Newark Mayor Ras Baraka.
“Defendant has not met her burden of establishing that her predominant purpose in physically opposing the Mayor’s arrest was to conduct oversight or gather information for a legislative purpose. No genuine legislative purpose was advanced by Defendant’s alleged conduct,” Semper wrote.
It’s unclear when McIver’s trial will begin. It had been scheduled to start Monday, but Semper delayed it pending Thursday’s ruling. Semper said he needs more facts to decide McIver’s motion to dismiss the third charge. ✂️
I suspect that the video will show (actually, it does) that she engaged in no such act. I also suspect that the case will be dropped before it gets to trial now that Lawyer Barbie, 2024 edition is out of the matter.

There are a lot of good days to celebrate today, none of which involve sardines! I’ll start with something that I like a lot.
Rosa Parks Day
On December 1, 1955, after a long Thursday at work, Rosa Parks boarded a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She took her seat in the 'colored' section. As she rode the Cleveland Avenue bus home, the bus began to fill.
The Montgomery city ordinance allowed bus drivers to assign seating. However, it did not permit them to demand passengers give up their seats. Despite this, bus drivers customarily required black passengers to give up their seats to white passengers when public transportation became full.
When the bus driver asked Parks to give up her seat, she refused. Police arrested her, and what followed is Civil Rights history. On December 5, 1955, the courts found Parks guilty of violating the city ordinance and fined her $10 plus a court fee.
She was an amazing woman.
Here’s WineRev:
1955 Montgomery, Alabama After rising racial tensions across the South, the nascent Civil Rights movement executes a plan. 42-year-old Rosa Parks, a seamstress and secretary as well as a member of the Montgomery NAACP, boards a city bus driven by James Blake. She deliberately sits down in the “white section” of the bus and despite a request from a white, male passenger and then orders from Blake and some passengers, refuses to move to the back and sit in the “colored” section. She is arrested, then bailed, then tried under a city segregation ordinance. Touches off a year-long bus boycott by the black community (over 1/3 of the ridership) that shatters the finances of the bus company and wreaks havoc with the city budget. (Resurrects the Reconstruction-era streetcar boycotts that swept the South in the 1870s & 1880s, resulting in reserved seats by race in the first place.) Watershed victory for Civil Rights and a long stride forward for America to live up to her ideals and live down her shame.

National Pie Day
Each year on December 1st, dessert lovers across the United States enjoy a slice of their favorite on National Pie Day. Pie is so delicious we celebrate it twice a year. The more popular date is January 23rd.
Girasol apparently gets a second bite of pie.
While it might be the lesser of the two celebrated PIE days (don't forget National Pi Day on March 14th), it happens to fall smack dab in the middle of a major pie-making season.
I won’t peacefully go to my grave until I’ve memorized all of the digits of Pi. I get my chance on Saturday, 3/14/2026. 3.1415926535898… Don’t wait up, I’ll keep going.

National Women Support Women Day
National Women Support Women Day is a special day dedicated to encouraging women to support and uplift each other.
This day celebrates the strength and unity that women can achieve by standing together. It’s a time to celebrate the impact women have on each other’s lives, fostering a community where mutual support and encouragement thrive.
This day is celebrated for several important reasons. Firstly, it aims to increase awareness about the issues women face, such as workplace discrimination, violence, and lack of representation.
By acknowledging these challenges, the day promotes a stronger sense of solidarity and collective action. Secondly, it recognizes and honors the achievements of women in various fields, from arts and business to politics and science.
Hopefully, it’s equal opportunity, because I support women, too! Pipe up, guys!!!

World AIDS Day
First recognized in 1988, World AIDS Day falls on December 1 each year. World AIDS Day is dedicated to spreading awareness of the AIDS pandemic spread by the spread of HIV infection, and to mourning those who have died of the disease. An estimated 40 million people worldwide have died of AIDS since 1981, and an estimated 37 million are living with HIV, making it one of the most important global public health issues in recorded history. Despite recent improvements in treatment, the AIDS epidemic still claims an estimated two million lives each year, of which more than 250,000 are children.
I keep reading that we’re close to a vaccine to prevent AIDS. This disease has been actively “discovered” for over 45 years now — articles I’ve read said that it’s been around for a long, long time before that. Controversially (to no one but the Stephen Millers and RFKs of the world), I will be very happy when it has been eliminated.
