As I listen to President Trump ramp up the rage engine against Somalian American Citizens. I think about my contributions to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society which has helped immigrants from around the world and not just Jews.
I believe that ‘never again’ means ‘never again’ to anyone and that includes people in the middle east who have little control over their lives and are subject to the whims of their leadership whether Israeli or Palestinian. I don’t think I need links to the prosecution of the war. We know Hamas’s heinous attacks and I am sure after decades of conflict they knew what would happen. A new score of martyrs. And Bibi, well, I think of Arafat who had the chance for peace but tossed it because many of these leaders lose meaning/power without someone to hate.
They press that fear button and make the enemies they need to stay in power to validate that fear they use to get your support.
And yet, all religions call for peace.
I spoke with a Muslim friend and we each felt that the other could attend our religious services and no one would say a thing.
President Trump welcomed the new leader of Syria in who was Al-Qaeda. My hope of course is that we can turn the corner as we did with Japan and Germany. My poster harkens back to one of the worst eras of German Propaganda.
President Trump ambushed various leaders from Ukraine and South Africa with very little of the South African claims proved and using pictures from other places, but loves those who bring him a jet or money.
Many of those investment promises from President Trump’s first administration did not pan out or re part of his current deal.
Worked well for his son in law. But not so much in a deal he worked with Electronic Arts and the Saudis who will own most of it. Hmmm…
So that’s ok.
What is not ok, is trying to live here. The state of Texas has been doing whatever it can with multiple investigations against a Muslim community that I wonder is that different from any other ethnic community. Isn’t it time to go after the Chinatowns and Koreatowns around the country? Oops! Probably shouldn’t have said that, now they probably will. Next would be the Amish, or the state of Utah, except, Utah votes red.
So best know the difference. The text reads:
Know the Difference
Leader Approved State Forbidden
Good:
brings money, buys our goods, brings money, flatters the Leader, brings money, sells us oil, brings money, gives us an airplane, brings money
BAD:
wants to live next door, wants to follow his religion, wants to preserve his language, wants to preserve his culture, dresses differently, might become friends with our children, might cast a glance at our daughters.
Certainly a mixed message from the ‘4 legs good, 2 legs better’ crowd.
And the image goes further. Note that the Gut has the prince holding up his airplane in front of the woman obscuring her view and pushing her into the background while she carries the larger load.
I think of the religious conservatism around the world which push women into an unequal role and restricts who half the population are allowed to be. It troubles me greatly.
Note that the Schlecht panel reflects a Wahabi Father dressed in a suit, behind his Moroccan Zahiri wife who is raising their child in Moroccan tradition and the American culture of their adopted country. The wife is dressed modestly and is wearing blue jeans. Looks like they are buying a home in your neighborhood — uh oh!
I am reminded of the time when Ashkenazi Jews did not intermarry with Sephardic Jews. After WWII a lot of that went out the window. But you can still have frictions with the factions and interfaith marriages.
Will the Schlecht panel family find religious freedom tolerance and happiness?
Will any of us?
